What is the National 2S/LGBTQIA+ Substance Use Study?
The National 2S/LGBTQIA+ Substance Use Study was open to anyone living in Canada over the age of 18. To qualify, community members must have used non-legalized substances (or in other words, substances other than alcohol or marijuana) sometime in the past month and be a member of the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community.
The National 2S/LGBTQIA+ Substance Use Study involves both an online survey and virtual focus groups. The survey asks about demographic information, substance use habits, experiences with medical intervention as it relates to substance use, as well as harm reduction practices. Anyone who completed the survey had the option to opt in to participate in an online focus group, however only a select number of folks will be contacted to participated.
The online survey is now closed.
Thank you for your interest in participating! We have now closed the online survey and will not be taking any additional participants.
What’s next?
We will be running a series of focus groups over the winter, exploring the topics of harm reduction needs, reasons for substance use, and sexualized substance use. Those who have been selected to participate in focus groups will be contacted directly.
We will be sharing the study findings back with community in spring 2026.
